Agra Teacher Life Cut Short by Cyber Fraud Call – A sad mishap that has left the people of Agra shocked was the death of Malti Verma, a 58-year-old government school teacher, due to cardiac arrest after receiving a morphed voice call from the fraudsters. The above catastrophe bring out the risk of cybercrime and its emotional impacts to the victims and their households.
Malti Verma taught at Junior High School in the city of Achhnera, always focusing on serving the youth of her society. Her family followed her as a loving mother who cared for her children a lot compared to anything else. However on 30/09/2015 her life changed in a very big way when she received a WhatsApp call that bring change for the worse in her life.
The phone rang about midday and the caller identified himself as a police inspector Norm. Politely the caller said he had discovered that her daughter was involved in scandal and he was planning to release some information that would dent her daughter’s character. The con man asked for an amount of one lakh rupees to avoid revealing the alleged scandal as mentioned above. Otherwise, any parent would consider such an allegation as a catastrophe; but in Malti’s case, it was actually a catastrophe that changed her whole life.
After the call, Malti called her son Deepanshu Rajput who was at work at that time. “She was very panicky and afraid,” Deepanshu said. “When there was a sound, then I realized that she was afraid by the way she spoke.” Deepanshu became very active after she told him all that she was told on the phone. He looked at the phone number and memorized it and he sad that it was a common trick by hackers. He attempted to calm down his mother, saying it only a con and that they should ignore the message or have nothing to be concerned with.
“I also talked to my sister, and there didn’t seem to be anything wrong,” Deepanshu said. “I advised my mother to remain calm and not to be a victim of such conmen.” However, the damage was done she was so shaken up you could see it on her face.”

Nonetheless, she was overwhelmed on the psychological level even after his attempts to reassure her on the phone. The next day while coming back from school, Malti started having chest pain as well as anxiety. His family including Deepanshu realized that the situation was very dire and took her to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, they got there only after everything had already gone up in smoke. The doctors closed her off and declared her dead, the cause was said to have arisen from a heart attack after immense stress.
The incidence has elicited debate within the community and there are many debates that come with the increasing incidence of cyber fraud. SP Jagdishpura Anandveer Singh said that the family members had registered a complaint regarding the incidence. “Let me assure you that this case will be pursued to the lattermost detailing and the appropriate individuals punished,” he said.

Malti’s family ; smile through the tears, their overwhelming loss, and their faith that by telling their story they might be able to save more people. “We want people to understand that these scams are pretty lethal,” he said through tears. “Yes, my mum was also a fighter, but she could not overcome the type of fear that these scammers put in her.”
