New Delhi The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi, V.K. Saxena on Wednesday launched a specific application in partnership with the Delhi Police launch Kutumb for safety of seniors in the capital. It is intended that through mobile app elderly resident will have easy time getting the assistance or raising an emergency alert so as to have a feeling of safety within their communities.
The screening event was organized at Delhi Police headquarter and police officials Delhi Police International and some NGOs of Delhi involved in welfare of elderly age persons. The application is called KUTUMB and is designed as part of Delhi’s greater plan to become more age friendly given the increasing population of elderly people living in the city.
Features of the App
The kutumb app is built with multiple features that help elderly people when they use a smartphone. Amongst these, the most interesting seems to be the emergency SOS button that lets a user call the police and anyone he/she may have registered to be informed in case of an emergency. This feature can prove very useful especially in areas such as calamity struck areas and helpful response can be extended as soon as possible.
Besides, with the help of the helpline available in the application, the seniors or their family/ friends can file complaints or seek assistance regarding any harassment/misbehavior, theft or any form of insecurity observed or faced by the elderlies. It is also possible to subscribe to guidelines on useful addresses of healthcare facilities, centers for elderly people, and relevant support groups.
The simplicity of this App does not just come from the availability and usability of several options and buttons and large fonts which even a layman would not have a problem using. Users can also make choices of the language they prefer to use so that they do not struggle using the Language of the App.

Background and Need
The decision to go ahead with the app comes at a time when security of the seniors in urban society is causing a lot of concern. As reported by the crime records of Delhi going by recent figures, cases of crime against senior citizens have been on the rise hence the need for enhanced precautions. The police and Delhi government have been on the lookout for such remedies to help the elderly citizens feel safer and lead a better life in their residing communities.

We need to be responsible of making them feel protected as well as to have someone or something to turn to in anytime of emergency. Presenting this app is a move in the right direction in making a better environment for them,” he said.
Collaboration with NGOs
The creation of this application was supported by numerous non-governmental organization involved in the care of senior citizens. These organizations allowed me to get good ideas on what the older individuals might need or fear, so that the functionality of the app would not only be well-developed, but also necessary and useful.
When the launch was taking place, one of the representatives of the NGO stated that there were high expectations about the given application. “This will help seniors enable them get help and assistance from various supports, based on the time when they need it the most. They also pointed out that ‘We believe it will foster a sense of community and reassurance,’ Alternative medicine that is safe and effective is the vision of CAM because of the belief that modern medicine has failed to address some of the health issues affecting the society especially those that relate to
Future Plans
The app is available, and Delhi Police as well as the LG’s office are already in process of broadening offered options. Subsequent release may benefit from additional components like; virtual health check, therapy support to the elderly, and other social isolation intervention services like Probus, quests, social communications among others. There are also debate on how to engage app with local participation program, to advertise events with programs that will specifically interest elderly.
Conclusion
The launching of kutumb app goes a long way in the campaign in enhancing the quality of life for elderly people in Delhi. Making it easier for older residents both to request help and to find it means improving their safety and, at the same time, creating a true community spirit in the buildings. Given the ongoing development of the city, more attention should be paid to all people living in it, but particularly, the weaker ones. With the help of this application, the Delhi government and police are going forward to making the environment safe for senior citizens and they want the elderly people should not feel like a burden but they should be treated like assets.
