Renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra has weighed in on the idea of Indian cricket star Virat Kohli making a transition into films, suggesting that the cricketer should stay away from the silver screen, even though he possesses notable acting skills.
Kohli, who has appeared in numerous television commercials alongside his actor-wife Anushka Sharma, has often been praised for his on-screen presence and comic timing. Despite his good looks and natural flair for acting, Kohli has never ventured into films—a decision that Chhabra believes is for the best.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Chhabra expressed his admiration for Kohli’s versatility and ability to excel at everything he attempts. “Virat Kohli is not just a great cricketer; he’s a natural actor too. He has the charm, the comic timing, and the confidence to perform on camera. But as talented as he is, I think he should stay where he is—in cricket. He’s doing an incredible job making the country proud, and that’s where his focus should remain,” Chhabra said.
Chhabra went on to describe Kohli as someone who has managed to balance success, fitness, and personal life with grace, noting that the cricketer has become a role model for many. “He’s a Delhi boy with a Punjabi background—he knows how to handle success without letting it go to his head. He’s maintained himself well on all fronts: competition, looks, fitness, and mentality. Plus, he’s a great husband and father, which makes him all the more admirable,” Chhabra added.
