Renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra has weighed in on the idea of Indian cricket star Virat Kohli making a transition into films, suggesting that the cricketer should stay away from the silver screen, even though he possesses notable acting skills.
Kohli, who has appeared in numerous television commercials alongside his actor-wife Anushka Sharma, has often been praised for his on-screen presence and comic timing. Despite his good looks and natural flair for acting, Kohli has never ventured into films—a decision that Chhabra believes is for the best.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Chhabra expressed his admiration for Kohli’s versatility and ability to excel at everything he attempts. “Virat Kohli is not just a great cricketer; he’s a natural actor too. He has the charm, the comic timing, and the confidence to perform on camera. But as talented as he is, I think he should stay where he is—in cricket. He’s doing an incredible job making the country proud, and that’s where his focus should remain,” Chhabra said.
Chhabra went on to describe Kohli as someone who has managed to balance success, fitness, and personal life with grace, noting that the cricketer has become a role model for many. “He’s a Delhi boy with a Punjabi background—he knows how to handle success without letting it go to his head. He’s maintained himself well on all fronts: competition, looks, fitness, and mentality. Plus, he’s a great husband and father, which makes him all the more admirable,” Chhabra added.
Reflecting on his meeting with Kohli a few years ago, Chhabra shared his impression of the cricketer as a grounded individual who has mastered the art of balancing his personal and professional life. He also made it clear that while other cricketers, such as Shikhar Dhawan, Vinod Kambli, and Sunil Gavaskar, have dabbled in films, Kohli should steer clear of the industry.
Virat Kohli, who married Anushka Sharma in 2017, is known for his dedication to his family. The couple, who have been residing in London with their daughter Vamika and son Akaay, continues to be one of India’s most celebrated power couples.
In conclusion, while Virat Kohli may have the talent to succeed in films, Mukesh Chhabra believes that his true calling lies in cricket, where he has already achieved legendary status.
