Many petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court for the possibility of removing millions of names from the voter list under Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. On Monday, senior advocate Kapil Sibal demanded an immediate hearing on the matter, on which the Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Thursday.
Along with Kapil Sibal, senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Shadab Furds and Gopal Shankaranarayanan mentioning the issue in the Supreme Court said that this process is expected to remove the names of millions of people, especially women and poor people from the voter list.
The petitioners demand that this amendment process be stopped immediately. He said that the case should be heard today or tomorrow because the deadline set by the Election Commission is very less. In the time limit till July 25, the process of removing the name on a large scale is going on across the state.
The petitioners include Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Mahua Moitra, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), People’s Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL). All of them have filed a petition in the Supreme Court, describing this process as unconstitutional and anti -people.
