As soon as the monsoon begins in Varanasi, the condition of roads has started coming up. In the early hours of Thursday, the VIP road of urban-ODR in front of Gilat Bazar outpost of Shivpur area suddenly collapsed. This road goes directly to Babatpur Airport. The pit built in the middle of the road was 15 feet deep and 12 feet wide.
It is a matter of honor that no vehicle was passing at the time of the incident, due to which a big accident was averted. Traffic was badly affected by road collapse. The traffic police closed the road by barricading and later opened partially.
VIP road suddenly collapsed
The PWD team reached the spot and filled the pit with sand, but the sewage pipeline was not repaired. PWD Chief Engineer Actress Kumar said that the sewage pipeline laid by Jal Nigam below the road is leaked in the pipeline. Due to this, cavity became under the road and the road sat down.
Police closed the road by barricading
Local people and PWD employees have also expressed apprehension that the road may sit again until the leak is right. The employee present on the spot, Chhannu Lal said that about 3 thousand feet of sand was put in the pit, but the problem did not solve from the root. Jal Nigam has been instructed to repair the leaks, but at present, the lives of people remain at risk.
